Identification of children with special needs (CWSN) and support program through an individualised education plan (IEP) at BCM Arya School, Laltian follows the steps:

1. The counselling cell at BCM Arya School, Laltian, noting the concerns of the student, consults the supervisor and special educator. The phone number of parents is also taken for reference.

2. The special educator meets the student, reviews supporting documents (if any), and shares the Dossier of the child with the supervisor and special educator. A behaviour/academic checklist is suggested to be filled by the class teacher.

3. The child attends sessions with the special educator/counsellor and class teacher.

4. Based on the findings, if need be, an informal assessment is conducted.

5. Parents are called and a meeting is arranged with the Principal, Supervisor, Class Teacher and the Special Educator.

6. The formal assessment by a psychologist is reviewed by the special educator and an individual education plan (IEP) is prepared.

7. An IEP meeting is planned with the parents of the child. The meetings are conducted with the Principal, subject teachers and special educator and the system is formalised.

8. Parents need to be engaged throughout in the process as this handholding builds confidence in the child.
